Intensives

Just as EMDR is a very different approach to psychotherapy, the Intensive is a very different approach to providing EMDR treatment.  Because of the “rewiring” and truly healing effect of EMDR, an Intensive can work in ways that are not possible utilizing standard talk-therapy techniques.  With EMDR processing, we can desensitize negative feelings and change the negative belief about self that has been encoded onto the memory in order to “rewire” the brain and truly heal the individual.  This means much more material can be processed and healed much more quickly in an Intensive session than is possible in traditional weekly therapy.

Why take months, when it can take days.

An Intensive usually entails 4 – 6 hour sessions for 2 – 4 consecutive days.  Rather than dealing with things on a weekly basis for an extended period of time, you  can often work through many issues intensively and fast track the healing and relief you seek as you look to move forward with your life.  Please keep in mind it is called an intensive for a reason. The work is certainly INTENSE, but so is the healing!  Intensives are not for everyone and thorough assessment of a potential client’s readiness for intensive work is provided in the free 1-hour intake session that can be done over the telephone or in person.  If you are interested in exploring the idea of an Intensive, please contact me to schedule an intake session and I will help you decide if an Intensive is right for you.  In some cases, Intensives can be utilized to work on very specific parts of a client’s history (i.e. preverbal trauma) and after the Intensive the client returns to the care of their weekly therapist.  If you currently have a therapist, please feel free to discuss this option with them and I am happy to discuss collaborative work.

Benefits

Days, Not Months

Find real and life changing healing in a matter of days rather than months or years.

Cost Effective

In the long run, Intensives are more cost effective because the therapy is concentrated and highly focused. The work is much more efficient and in the end requires less session time and less cost overall.  Rather than opening up and closing things down each week, I only have to open things up once and so more session time is spent processing and healing.

No More Weekly Appointments

Rather than scheduling your life around a weekly therapy appointment, simply start living the healthy life you desire. An Intensive can be that emotional reset you’ve been looking for.

More Free Time

Replace the time you would have otherwise spent seeing a therapist each week with quality time with your family, career advancement, or other personal development. Not only will you not be spending time in weekly therapy, you will also be healed from those life issues that had previously been holding you back.

No Waiting

Call me to schedule your free intake consultation ASAP rather than sitting on someone’s waiting list.

You Don't Have to Live in Denver!

My practice is located in Denver, Colorado, but that doesn’t mean you have to be.  Clients can travel from anywhere in the world to Denver to spend a few days with me in an Intensive and then return home to their daily lives – wherever that may be.  If you will be traveling here for an Intensive, I can provide you with more detailed information regarding hotels, transportation in Denver, the airport etc…

Things to Consider

An Investment in Your Future

Intensive therapy is a financial investment in you and your future. Rather than being on the weekly payment plan of traditional therapy treatment, you will be investing a larger amount of money up front (that in the long run will likely still be less money than ongoing weekly therapy). Many people have to plan ahead and save before they can schedule an Intensive. Once the Intensive is scheduled though, you will have a fixed cost to work with rather than the unknown of ongoing weekly therapy.

Change has an Impact

When clients make fast but highly effective changes in how they feel, that can often impact (both positively as well as negatively) the family system in which they live. Sometimes other parts of the system don’t handle the healing very well. These issues and concerns will be addressed both on intake as well as at the wrap up of the Intensive. I am a systemically trained marriage and family therapist and while Intensive work is amazingly healing, it can also be system disrupting.

After Your Intensive

Many clients can complete an Intensive and then return to their lives ready to simply move forward. Some clients will benefit from having a working relationship with a therapist who can help them deal with things if they are only working on certain aspects of their treatment in the Intensive (pre-verbal trauma work for example). Some clients will need to schedule several intensives to fully process and heal their stories and in these cases a weekly therapist to help manage things between Intensives may be recommended or required. This will be thoroughly assessed and discussed in the intake telephone call.

FAQ’s

What does a typical day in an Intensive look like?
Typically, sessions will begin around 9 am, with a lunch break around noon and ending around 4 pm, though that schedule is entirely flexible to accommodate the work being pursued.  Depending on the nature of the processing, breaks will be taken as needed.  The amount of time we will be working each day will fluctuate depending entirely on the work we are doing.  The nice part about Intensives is the flexibility afforded to tailor fit the work to what your system needs at the time.  A one-hour lunch break (sometimes longer if needed) will be taken each day.
How much time do I need to schedule?
That is the magic question and the answer is: it depends.  During your intake consultation, we will discuss what you would like to work on and the goals you would like to achieve through the Intensive.  At that time you and I will make a determination regarding how much time will be needed.  I may ask you to submit a brief written history to me ahead of time in order to most effectively utilize our consultation time on the phone.
How much will it cost?

When I reserve time for your Intensive, I will be reserving that entire day for working with you.  I charge a daily rate of $1,200/day. The half day rate is $600.  A 50% deposit will be required to confirm your Intensive reservation, and the remaining 50% will be paid on the last day of the Intensive.

What if I need to cancel?

If something comes up and you are unable to attend your Intensive, please contact me as soon as possible to discuss rescheduling.  Rescheduling will not affect your deposit or payment. If you need to cancel your Intensive entirely, any deposit money already paid will be returned minus a $1,000 scheduling fee if the cancellation is made with more than 30 days before your scheduled Intensive. Deposits are fully non-refundable if the cancellation is made within 30 days of the scheduled Intensive.

Do I have to live in Denver to do an Intensive?
No. One of the many beautiful things about Intensives is that since the work is concentrated into several days, rather than an ongoing weekly basis, clients can travel to Denver from all anywhere in the world for several days to participate in an Intensive.
